  • Essential Equipment – Complete machinery breakdown
  • Production Line Details – Step-by-step flow with technical insights

  1. What is Serpentinite? Applications & Advantages

Definition & Composition

Serpentinite is a metamorphic rock formed from the alteration of ultramafic minerals (like olivine and pyroxene) under high-pressure, low-temperature conditions.

Key characteristics:

  • Mineral Makeup: Primarily serpentine group minerals (chrysotile, antigorite, lizardite)
  • Color & Texture: Typically green, fibrous, or scaly with a waxy luster
  • Hardness: Mohs scale rating of 2.5–4, making it moderately crushable

Industrial & Construction Applications

Due to its durability and versatility, processed serpentinite serves multiple industries:

  • Construction Sand: Replaces river sand in concrete, asphalt, and masonry
  • Aggregate Material: Used in road base layers and railway ballast
  • Decorative Stone: Polished slabs for countertops, tiles, and landscaping
  • Industrial Uses: Source of magnesium, filler in refractory bricks
  • Agriculture: Soil amendment to balance pH and add magnesium

Why Choose Serpentinite Sand?

  • Eco-Friendly: Sustainable alternative to mined river sand
  • Superior Strength: High compressive strength enhances concrete durability
  • Chemical Resistance: Low reactivity ensures stability in harsh conditions
  • Thermal Stability: Withstands high temperatures—ideal for fireproof materials
  • Cost-Effective: Abundant reserves reduce dependence on scarce natural sand

  1. How to Process Serpentinite into Construction Sand?

Transforming serpentinite into high-quality construction sand involves precise crushing, shaping, and cleaning. Here’s the complete process:

Step 1: Primary Crushing

Objective: Reduce large serpentinite blocks (≤1000mm) into manageable chunks

Equipment: Heavy-duty jaw crusher

Output Size: ≤200mm

Step 2: Secondary Crushing

Objective: Further break down rocks into smaller fragments.

Equipment: Cone crusher or impact crusher.

Output Size: ≤50mm

Step 3: Screening

Objective: Separate properly crushed material for further processing.

Equipment: Vibrating screen with multi-layered meshes.

Action: Oversized particles return for re-crushing.

Step 4: Sand Making (Tertiary Crushing)

Objective: Shape particles into uniform, cubical grains.

Equipment: Vertical Shaft Impact (VSI) crusher.

Output: High-quality machine-made sand.

Step 5: Final Screening & Grading

Objective: Achieve precise particle size distribution.

Equipment: High-frequency screen or air classifier.

Target Sizes:

  • Coarse sand (2mm–5mm): Structural concrete.
  • Medium sand (0.5mm–2mm): Plastering & masonry.
  • Fine sand (<0.5mm): Specialized applications.

Step 6: Washing & Dewatering

Objective: Remove impurities & reduce moisture

Equipment: Wheel sand washer, hydrocyclone, dewatering screen

Result: Moisture content ≤10-15%

Optional Step: Tailings Recycling

Objective: Minimize waste and recover fines

Equipment: Fine recovery system, sludge thickener

500tph complete stone crushing plant

This setup is a 500tph complete limestone crushing plant, with a maximum input size of 1020mm, and output sizes of 0-20mm, 0-5mm, 5-9mm, and 9-22mm. It is configured with one set hopper, three aerial hoppers, one vibrating feeder DN 6015, 4 four hoist feeders, primary jaw crusher PE-1200*1500, two sets impact crusher PF 1520, two sets vibrating screen 3YK 2470, three sets 3YK 2470, three sets of VSI sand maker DN8500, and 24 pcs belt conveyors.

Process:

  1. The Excavator unloads the stones into the hopper, and the stone enters the vibrating feeder from the lower part of the hopper.
  2. The vibrating feeder feeds the 120- 1020mm stones evenly to the primary jaw crusher; the vibrating feeder will have a gap of 120mm grizzly bar. The 0- 120mm stone enters the primary two-layer vibrating screen. 0- 20mm is one of the final products. And the +20mm will be transported to the underground stockpile. The output of the jaw crusher will be sent to the same stockpile, too.
  3. The stockpile is equipped with one hoist vibrating feeder. The materials in the stockpile enter one of the aerial hoppers above the two impact crushers.
  4. The output of the impact crusher will be sent to the aerial hopper above two vibrating screens, too. There is a fourth conveyor belt located under the two impact crushers.
  5. The output of the impact crushers will be sent to two sets of vibrating screens, 2YK 2470 with 5mm and 45mm mesh. The +45mm will be sent back to the stockpile to be crushed again by the impact crusher. 0- 5mm will be separated as the second final product. The 5-45mm material enters three sets of VSI sand makers.
  6. Each sand maker will be equipped with one vibrating 3-layer vibrating 3YK 2470. The Mesh sizes are 5mm, 9mm, and 22mm. After the screening process, we will get the final products. The sand over 22mm will be sent to the sand maker.
